It was a beautiful Fall day on Saturday at Harrington Field. The WWU Vikings hosted the Boise State Broncos for the opening game of the 2024 NCRC season. The red, yellow and orange backdrop proved to be a gorgeous setting for some entertaining rugby between the two conference rivals.
The Vikings did not waste any time getting on the scoreboard as Captain Harry Moore (Eastside Tsunami, Portland) scored on the edge with game being less that two minutes old. The try was converted by Freshman George Pritchard (Elgin Park Secondary, BC) who kicked his first of five conversion on the day. Charlie Funk (Roosevelt HS, Seattle) ran across two more trys while Liam Herring (Eastside Tsunami, Portland) added solos. Western took a 26-0 score into the halftime.
The second half saw more of the same as the Vikings could not be denied. Eli Ashmann (Sehome HS, Bellingham), George Pritchard, Carson Lowe (Budd Bay, Lacy Wa.), Ned O'Brian (Seattle Vikings) and Oliver Kelleher (Whalpole, MA) ran through, around and over the Boise State defenders. Final Score was 55-0
The team hosted a number of HS recruits for campus visits and to our guests at the game. Players from BC, Camas Wa., Arizona and Colorado went away impressed with the performance on the day.
