When WWU headed down I-5 to take on the UW Huskies, they knew to expect a spirited match. The much-improved Huskies came out firing in the first 15 minutes and scored what proved to be their only try of the game. The Huskies did not threaten again as the WWU defense was outstanding throughout the rest of the match. Three turnovers by WWU in the red zone did not help the Vikings on the scoreboard, and UW took a 7-5 lead into the half.
Statistically, the advantage was all WWU. Time of possession was 21:48 to 14:36, 201 passes made to 67, linebreaks 8-3, and tries scored 5-1.
WWU scored four tries in the next forty minutes and had another disallowed for an apparent knock-on in goal by winger Eli Ashmann (Chuckanut Bay). Eli, aka "The Viper," did manage to score two more that the referee allowed. Liam Herring and Fergus Moore, two of five starters from Portland's Eastside Tsunami youth program, each scored solo tries. Carson Lowe (Budd Bay) had another strong game in attack and defense, adding a solo that gave the team the bonus point and a five-point victory. George Pritchard (Elgin Park Secondary, BC) was good on 3 of 5 conversions.
The Killer "B's" remained unbeaten as they came away with a 22-22 draw with the Huskies.
Next up, the Vikings are heading south to Arizona to take on Grand Canyon University.
