Western Washington University is excited to announce the appointment of Adam Roberts as the new head coach of its men’s rugby program, a premier club sport on campus since 1957. Roberts brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record of success at the highest levels of the sport.
With a Master of Physical Education specialized in Rugby Development and a Level 4 coaching certification from World Rugby, Roberts possesses a deep understanding of the game and the skills to develop elite athletes. He has coached at various levels, including the Canadian National Youth Program, where he led the U20 team to three World Trophy Championships.
Prior to joining Western Washington University, Roberts served as the head coach of the Earl Marriott Secondary senior boys rugby team. During his tenure, he led the team to numerous victories and developed several players who have advanced to professional rugby. Notably, Earl Marriott has produced 7 players who have represented the Canadian national team, with 4 of them starting in a test match against the USA.

Roberts will officially begin his duties as head coach on January 1st. He will be responsible for all aspects of the program, including recruiting, coaching, and team management.
WWU Men's Rugby competes in the Men’s Division D1AA Northwest Collegiate Rugby Conference against local rivals such as the University of Washington, Washington State, Oregon, and many other major universities throughout the Pacific Northwest. The 2023-24 team recently achieved the title of CRAA D1AA National Champions in 7s and finished ranked #5 in the country in 15s.
