We are thrilled to share the exciting highlights from the debut of The Futures 7s team at the Youth Can-Am 7s Tournament on Saturday, June 24. The event was nothing short of a resounding success as our team put on a stellar performance, securing a remarkable 3rd place in the HS Division with a solid 2-2 record.
Comprised of talented players from Camas HS, Eastside Lions, Seattle Vikings, and the Wenatchee Schoolhouse clubs, The Futures team showcased the incredible potential of our local rugby talent. Bringing together a dynamic group of three seniors, who have already been admitted and committed to joining us in the Fall, alongside nine impressive Grade 11 students, all expressing their interest in joining WWU after graduation.
The excitement kicked off on Friday evening, as the players gathered for an introduction and training session. Fueled with a hearty meal, they then returned to their billets for a well-deserved rest ahead of the action-packed day ahead. On Saturday morning, the team took to the field at 9:00 AM, facing off against the formidable Chuckanut HS team in an adrenaline-fueled match.
We extend our heartfelt appreciation to the Chuckanut Bay RFC for organizing this memorable tournament and creating an incredible platform for all participants. Alongside The Futures, tournament champions Advantage Rugby from White Rock BC, Cascade Rugby from east of the mountains, Chuckanut Bay, and the Washington Academy of Rugby (WRA) from the Rainier Valley added to the electrifying atmosphere and intense competition.
Notably, some players from The Futures also had the opportunity to explore our campus and meet with representatives from Admissions. This proved to be a great opportunity to promote the school and the rugby program.
The future is undoubtedly bright for The Futures and the rugby community as a whole. We are immensely proud of their performance and the support they received from those present.
